Outdoor Kitchen on Wood Deck | Joe Gorga’s New BBQ Island

Thinking about building an outdoor kitchen on wood deck… But need some examples? Well, you’re in the right place! We recently worked with Joe Gorga on his own outdoor kitchen setup… And one of his islands is situated on a second story deck!

If you’re familiar with Joe from his appearances on the Real Housewives of New Jersey… Then you might already know what we’re talking about. Regardless, let’s discuss this outdoor kitchen on wood deck!

Normally, you’ll have quite a few considerations in mind before installing your island on a deck. First and foremost, weight is a concern. If your island is too heavy… Your deck won’t be able to support it as-is. Which means you’ll have to go back and add structural footings. Alternatively… You could look into a lighter weight solution that’s just as durable.

Enter reason number one why Joe Gorga decided to work with RTA! Our islands are made from concrete panels. So they retain the impressive strength and durability you expect from concrete… All of the extra weight is shaved off. This means you can install an RTA island without the need for structural footings on your deck. That’s a win!

And if you have a second story deck… The benefits get even crazier! Let’s say you want to install an outdoor kitchen on wood deck… But your deck is on the second story, like Joe Gorga’s. With some build methods… It’s impossible to do! Otherwise, a builder will have to carry materials up the stairs… And build your island on-site. This can often turn into a logistical nightmare and significantly increase the cost of your island!

Not so with RTA. Again, it comes down to those concrete panels. With some extra sets of hands… Those panels will easily be carried up the stairs. The panels will be bolted together with L-brackets… Countertop placed… Appliances installed… And that’s it! In the span of a few hours, your outdoor kitchen on wood deck is complete.
